Shoebox Series: Second Edition (2004)

Premiered as “an art collection in a shoebox” on the model Joseph Cornell’s “shadow boxes, Duchamps’ “Box in a Valise," and Warhol’s “time capsules,” the second edition in the Shoebox series was first offered for sale as a Bridge benefit edition in 2004. The Bridge Shoebox was assembled in a museum-grade, archival storage box in the exact dimensions of a typical shoebox, and containing works by more than 40 contemporary artists. Each "shoebox" contained a variety of art works produced in an array of media including audio and video works as well as drawings, prints and artists’ multiples.
