Director Biography - Alex Mastoon
From her childhood in South Florida creating worlds in spiral notebooks - inspired by the glow of early MTV - Alex Mastoon began shooting skate videos in Brooklyn, precariously wielding a clunky Dell laptop as her camera. Graduating to Set Decoration and Art Direction on indie features and shorts in Chicago, her talents got her hired in art departments for various commercials, and Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story; experimentations with video art led to blockbuster and commercial Production Management for companies like Nike, and directors such as Zack Snyder & Michael Bay.

Once in Los Angeles, she collaborated with burgeoning artists to produce live streaming content for Red Bull Music Academy that broke the internet. And with downtime at a popular post house in Hollywood, she soon fused her unique inspirations to write and direct her debut short, Word Is Bond: a day in the life of a closeted rapper in 90s LA. Through close collaboration with LGBTQ rappers of color who lent the necessary authenticity to the struggle her film highlights, this sonic & visual poem about homophobia in 90s Hip Hop debuted at Outfest Fusion at the Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. It has since received awards and nominations at screenings throughout Europe, North America, and Japan.

Alex now spends her time running her own production company with her husband and producing partner, Zachary Mastoon called "Alilfilm Pictures". Together they are busy developing, directing, and writing films, commercials, and music videos between NYC, LA and Spain working alongside innovative artists, dancers, and musicians.
